Ministry of Transport

We are stating that Ministry of Transport is now active, working currently from temporary Slipstream Offices at Spawn.

Ministry functions are as follows:

  • Construction and maintenance of main public transport ways:
     
  1. Slipstream (Overworld and Nether)
  2. Nether Highways and Railways
     
  • Construction and Maintenance of main stations on aforementioned ways, including P.U.N.T. Stations.
  • Maintenance of P.U.N.T. Horses

Ministry employees:

@MaximusPower_-Minister of Transport (absens)

@Little_Luca-Chief Engineer and North Slipstream Main Line Custodian

@Pajoonk-Chief Architect and East Slipstream Main Line Custodian

@ShawnBoucher-Shovelmaster ??? Slipstream Main Line Custodian ???

@Vice Dellos-Chief Designer ??? Slipstream Main Line Custodian ???

@Krikkeee-Nether Slipstream Specialist , Nether Slipstream Main Lines Custodian

@sanamia-Stablemaster ??? Slipstream Main Line Custodian ???

Employees and functions (or names of functions) are subject to change (some of them don't even know yet they are employed by Ministry :-) ).

Ministry powers:

For now we ask admins for demoi-godly power of /trust along all Main Slipstream Lines for all Custodians, so we can maintain them without posting redmine ticket every time.

 

Proper offices will be added for other employees or built in new building, outside of spawn.

You kinda catch me by surprise here, but I'm honoured.

You can give me the nether-SS if you want. They seem to need a lot of work at first glance, but I don't really mind helping to maintain any of them (nether or overworld).

  • Finishing the slipstreams
  • Providing shielding against Ghast's
  • Maybe a more noticeable entrance :P

Well, if you ever need a cartography department, you know where to find me. B) I can also help with the south line's PUNT maintenance once you get round to that, having been a warden there before.

And as I have not said so enough before: I am amazed by the dedication you're showing for this Pajoonk, well done!

While going around the Nether SS I noticed that they mostly use 1 row of ice with 1 row of lowered slabs or something similar next to it. Because most of them are only 2 rows wide I already started to widen them to a 3 widen the SS so 2 people can use it at the same time.

But then I got an idea: what if we replace the lowered slabs with rails, combining the railway with the nether SS in 1 tunnel. The rails would be removed from the current highways.

I'll make a small preview in the nether SS hub (start of east line).

Pro:

  • No more horses on the rails
  • Redstone torch code would now work for both the SS and the rails, making it easier to spot important places when traveling the rails.
  • Unloaded minecarts won’t interfere with boats. (they are lower than 1 block), so it doesn’t really matter if someone forgets to destroy them. But still destroy them after use please.
  • It’s rather recourse friendly: lowers need for slabs, ice… and the rails are already there in the Highway.
  • ·The space is there

Con:

  • Might trade in the horse problem from the highway for a boat problem
    (Boats can however be destroyed if needed, claimed horses can’t)
  • Loaded minecarts do interfere with boats, this is only a real problem if both rails are in use.
  • The SS is not always exactly above the highway making connections at stops/stations a bit harder to do.

Idea is good but I see one more con.

It would be hard to get out of minecart, to make proper station without compromising SS.

Stupid idea, but maybe we can give the MoT employees a title (like NT has) so they are easily recognisable and people can contact them more directly in chat when they have questions/problems with one of the SS.

I already spoke about it with Pajoonk and he tought it might get a little overwhelming with so many titles in chat.

I agree with Pajoonk here. To many titles would indeed overwhelm the chat especially since the majority of chat has nothing to do with MoT. :) Tho theres nothing wrong with occasionally reminding chat to direct concerns and problems about the slipstream to the MoT.

I considered that a long time ago actually. Long before you guys created Ministry of Transport by yourselves I had an idea to ask some people if they'd like to be part of a group like that and have a title. In the end I came to the same conclusions. NT's title has already caused confusion to some players taking him for a Mod and clutters the chat. It's fine as long as it's just one person but considering MoT involves quite a few players who are also very active. It would make the chat far less readable.

Alternatively I could make it so the group appears as Ministry of Transport in the /list command output but have no chat prefix. Would make MoT somehow stand out without chat clutter.

The ministry now has a team called: ministry_of_transport

Pajoonk and me are the leaders for now (maybe this can change). If you need to be added to the team for something, you would have to ask one of us.
Not everyone of the ministry has been added yet because I don't know if they need to be online for it to work, (will try when I have some time).

Commands:

  • to add/ remove players:
    • /pex group team_ministry_of_transport users
      to list all users in your team
    • /pex group team_ministry_of_transport user add player_name
    • /pex group team_ministry_of_transport user remove player_name
  • for trust:
    • / trust [team.ministry_of_transport]
      Notice the . instead of the _ afther team

      apparently anyone (even non-members) can give the team accestrust to their claims with this command if I understand correctly.

Just be considirate. Your connection should not interfere with inside of highway and should not endanger traveling people or destroy existing connections.
