Gopher's Minions

I've recently started playing New Vegas again and im loving it. But it suddenly just stopped working. Everytime id start a game (new or loaded) it would crash. I've tried for hours trying to fix the problem, because i thought a mod was causing the issue. I even uninstalled all mods and redownloaded the entire game, but it still crashed.

Thats when i remembered a Windows update between my last time playing NV and now. After some research google confirmed that it was indeed the new Windows 10 Update that made Fallout NV (and apparently even Fallout 3) unplayable, if you have an Nvidia Card with a driver newer than version 368.81. After rolling back to that driver and and installing the fresh beta version of New Vegas Anti Crash my game worked just fine again. I don't know if rolling back the driver is enough on its own, because i did both together, but if you do both you should be good.

I'm writing this in the hope to save someones time, because its not a well known issue (afaik), but a very confusing and annoying one.

Greetings

I have yet to find one good reason to upgrade my gamingPC to W10. DX12?...... any good game worth using it will be years away.

I did upgrade my 2 year old i7 laptop and the dam thing is so slow now I don't even want to use it.

Don't hold your breath for an official fix. Many developers revisit and fix their games, but not Bethesda (and Obsidian is not under contract any more). I've been complaining to beth and Steam support for years (pretty much every time I wanted to play New Vegas) that I need to pirate the game despite owning it. My version is part of a 2011 summer sale bundle that is quite literally missing the FalloutNV executable and language-specific files in its depots. All I've gotten back is "ask the other party"  and "we're sorry, new vegas isn't supported any more". I can't even ask to have the license removed to buy an unbroken version because I'd lose access to Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout 3 too.

So whenever I want to play FalloutNV, I need to "aquire" the language bsa's and pester friends on Steam to send me their FalloutNV.exe (a stock executable works with steam)

I really don't like how they get away with this.

Have you tried running it in Compatability Mode? Right-click on the executable (or shortcut), and select Properties. Then Click the Compatability Tab (at top), and try running it Windows 7 Compatability Mode.

Just an idea.

Thanks for the input. I'm back in action now, if anyone else has a similar issue, I had change to the updated 4gb patch and set every .exe to Windows 7 Compatability Mode and run as admin. The fullscreen mod still won't load but I think I live without that

Edit: OneTweak seems to be working for borderless fullscreen
